An Academically Focused Preschool
Ages 6 Weeks to 5 Years
At Concord Children’s Academy, through much experience, time and research, we developed a PreKindergarten program that focuses on Kindergarten readiness, solid interpersonal/friendship skill development and character education, strong handwriting curriculum and phonetic awareness and development programs, and math/science education. Our Pre-K program focuses on whole child development.
The PreKindergarten classrooms are designed to encourage individual and group play. Like our Preschoolers, the children will experience structured classroom activities in a group/class setting; however, they will also work and explore individually at his/her own pace. At Concord Children’s Academy, we firmly stand behind the Arts and the proven benefits of arts, music, science and math in preschool education. Our class day includes child directed art studies, lots of music play and creativity and full science/math centers in each of the Preschool classrooms. The PreKindergarteners love the Dance Studio. We have full mirrors and dance bar with a variety of child friendly classical, ethnic, folk and kiddie classic music selection. The children love to stretch and practice yoga in the Studio. As part of our Community Outreach Program, Concord Children’s Academy supports the Cabarrus County Arts Council.
The PreKindergarten educational curriculum is built on the Creative Curriculum program that is recommended by the NC Rated License Assessors. However, at Concord Children's Academy, we believe in educating the whole-child and have added a multi-dimensional approach to our child's education by including a more well-rounded curriculum and enrichment series. The PreK program also utilizes Calico Spanish, YogaCalm and the Character Education and Leadership Training program by Sean Covey.
Handwriting Without Tears is a strong component of our PreKindergarten program. This curriculum is very highly rated among strong community school systems and larger private schools. It is a multi-component system that works with letter formation and recognition. The curriculum is utilized throughout the classroom as a base, core program – not just as an interest center. It is proven that children’s literacy strength, story writing skills and organizational/success skills are directly related to strong handwriting and reading. Handwriting fluency is fundamental to learning because children think and write at the same time. When we teach children to write, we also teach them how to express themselves. We focus on fun and achievement to optimize children’s curiosity and joy of learning throughout school. Our goal is to help students learn proper beginning handwriting habits and then apply those habits naturally and automatically to all writing experiences. The Handwriting Without Tears readiness and writing lessons teach body awareness, cooperation, taking turns, listening, crayon and pencil grip, drawing, building, letter and number recognition, capital letter and number formation. At Concord Children’s Academy, we are proud to offer such a strong program to our students and parents to ensure a strong entry into the Big School world after graduation.
At CCA, we sponsor several innovative learning initiatives that supplement our programs. Your child will enjoy the full use and exploration of our new Outdoor Learning Center, Music and Movement Studio, Community Activity Room and the Computer Lab and Quiet Center. Our older students also love the basketball court, tricycles, Outdoor Reading and Writing Clubhouse and Dramatic Arts Stage. The children are also actively invovled with the Concord Children's Academy Healthy Kids Initiative. They take an active interest in menu planning, learning about healthy foods and exercise and work with Mrs. Vickie weekly to learn new facts about how to keep their little bodies healthy. Please check out the Enrichment tab on our website to view more detail.
We would love to meet you and your child and show you our program and facility!
